Meaning & Translation

Verse 1
O Rama, Krishna, Govinda, Narayana, Narayana, Narayana, Narayana! O Jagannath, the manifest Lord of Puri! O Jagannath, Lord of Nilachal, with the people, Lord of creation!
Verse 2
Call Him Narayana or Jagannath, call Him Purushottam or Jagannath, call Him Keshav or Jagannath, the charioteer of the Pandavas or Jagannath, the wielder of conch, discus, mace or Jagannath. Shall I call Him Krishna or Jagannath? Shall I call Him Gopala or Jagannath? Shall I call Him Muralidhar or Jagannath? Shall I call Him Shyam or Jagannath? Shall I call Him Lord of the great ocean or Jagannath? Shall I call Him dweller of the golden peak or Jagannath? Shall I call Him elder brother of Balabhadra or Jagannath? Shall I call Him purifier of the fallen or Jagannath? O Meechalnath!
Verse 3
Tell me, where will you hide yourself, when the world is pulling this chariot? O Jagannath, the manifest Lord of Puri, my Lord, Lord of creation with the people. The temple locks are open, all dark guards are broken. From the blue peak, He who created the universe Himself has descended.
Verse 4
The bells ring 'ghanan ghan ghan', the chariot is adorned, the Nandighosha roars. Millions of people pull the path, roaring on the Mahakala path. The swaying wheels, two vast eyes, Sudarshan Chakra, protector of time. Behold, in this wooden body, Mahakal Himself stands manifest.
Verse 5
Chant Hari Bol! A great roar rises today on earth, He who sat on the throne until yesterday has come to walk. Listen, O emperors of the world, cut down your arrogance today. Before whom even kings are disciples, do not run from Him. With a golden broom in hand, where even a king stands as a servant, behold, today He stands before those kings.
Verse 6
No one is high, no one is low, all are pulled by the same rope. Tell me, where will you hide yourself, when the world pulls your head? O Jagannath, the manifest Lord of Puri! O Jagannath, the blue-robed King, with the people, Lord of creation! O Jagannath, Jagannath, Narayana, Narayana!
