Meaning & Translation
Verse 1
With the dust of the lotus feet of Sri Guru, I cleanse the mirror of my mind. I describe the pure glory of Lord Rama, who bestows the four fruits of life (Dharma, Artha, Kama, Moksha).
Verse 2
Knowing myself to be devoid of intelligence, I meditate on you, O Pavan Kumar (son of wind). Grant me strength, wisdom, and knowledge, and remove all my sufferings and impurities.
Verse 3
Victory to Hanuman, ocean of wisdom and virtues. Victory to the Lord of Monkeys, who illuminates the three worlds.
Verse 4
You are the messenger of Rama, the abode of incomparable strength. You are Anjani's son, known as Pavanputra (son of the wind).
Verse 5
Great hero, valiant, with a body like Vajra (diamond). Remover of evil thoughts, companion of good sense.
Verse 6
You possess a golden complexion, are splendidly adorned. With earrings in your ears and curly hair.
Verse 7
In your hands, a thunderbolt and a banner shine. A sacred thread (janeu) adorns your shoulder.
Verse 8
You are an incarnation of Shiva, son of Kesari. Your valor and glory are revered by the whole world.
Verse 9
You are learned, virtuous, and extremely clever. You are always eager to perform Lord Rama's tasks.
Verse 10
You delight in hearing the glories of the Lord. Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita reside in your heart.
Verse 11
Assuming a tiny form, you appeared before Sita. Assuming a fearsome form, you burned Lanka.
Verse 12
Assuming a colossal form, you destroyed the demons. Thus, you accomplished Lord Rama's missions.
Verse 13
You brought the Sanjeevani herb and revived Lakshmana. Lord Rama embraced you joyfully.
Verse 14
Lord Rama praised you highly. He said, 'You are as dear to me as my brother Bharat.'
Verse 15
Even the thousand-headed Sheshnag sings your glory. Saying this, Lord Rama embraced you.
Verse 16
Sanak and other sages, Brahma, and the great saints. Narada, Saraswati, and the king of serpents (Sheshnag).
Verse 17
Yama, Kubera, and the guardians of the directions. Even poets and scholars cannot describe your complete glory.
Verse 18
You rendered a great service to Sugriva. You united him with Rama and helped him regain his kingdom.
Verse 19
Vibhishana heeded your counsel. And became the king of Lanka, as the whole world knows.
Verse 20
The sun, which is thousands of Yojanas away. You swallowed it, mistaking it for a sweet fruit.
Verse 21
With Lord Rama's ring in your mouth. You leapt across the ocean, which is no wonder.
Verse 22
All the difficult tasks in the world. By your grace, become easy to accomplish.
Verse 23
You are the guardian at Rama's door. No one can enter without your permission.
Verse 24
All joys are found in your refuge. When you are the protector, there is no fear.
Verse 25
Only you can control your mighty splendor. All three worlds tremble at your roar.
Verse 26
Ghosts and evil spirits do not come near. When the name of Mahavir is uttered.
Verse 27
Diseases vanish, all suffering is removed. By continuous chanting of the brave Hanuman's name.
Verse 28
Hanuman liberates from troubles. Anyone who meditates on him with mind, deed, and word.
Verse 29
Lord Rama is the ascetic king over all. You accomplished all his tasks.
Verse 30
And whoever comes with any desire. Attains the immeasurable fruits of life.
Verse 31
Your glory extends through all four yugas. Your renown illuminates the entire world.
Verse 32
You are the protector of saints and sages. The destroyer of demons, beloved of Rama.
Verse 33
You are the bestower of eight siddhis and nine nidhis. Mother Janaki (Sita) granted you this boon.
Verse 34
You possess the elixir of Rama's name. And forever remain Lord Rama's servant.
Verse 35
Chanting your name leads one to Rama. It eradicates the sorrows of many births.
Verse 36
At the end of life, one goes to Rama's abode. And is known as a devotee of Hari (God) in future births.
Verse 37
One does not need to remember any other deity. Serving Hanuman ensures all happiness.
Verse 38
All troubles are cut down, all pain disappears. For whoever remembers the mighty Hanuman.
Verse 39
Victory, victory, victory to Lord Hanuman. Bestow your grace, O Lord, like the supreme deity.
Verse 40
Whoever recites this a hundred times. Is freed from bondage and attains great joy.
Verse 41
Whoever reads this Hanuman Chalisa. Attains perfection, as testified by Lord Shiva (Gaurisa).
Verse 42
Tulsidas is always a servant of Hari. O Lord, make my heart your abode.
Verse 43
O son of the wind, remover of troubles, embodiment of auspiciousness. May you, along with Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita, reside in my heart, O king of gods.
