अनंतं वासुकि शेष पद्मनाभं च कम्बलम्। शड्खपाल धार्तराष्ट्र तक्षकं कालियं तथा॥१॥

एतानि नव नामानि नागानां च महात्मनाम्। सायंकाले पठेन्नित्यं प्रातः काले विशेषतः॥२॥ तस्मे विषभयं नास्ति सर्वत्र विजयीं भवेत्।

ब्रह्म लोके च ये सर्पाः शेषनागाः पुरोगमाः । नमोऽस्तु तेभ्यः सुप्रीताः प्रसन्नाः सन्तु मे सदा ॥१॥

विष्णु लोके च ये सर्पाः वासुकि प्रमुखाश्चये । नमोऽस्तु तेभ्यः सुप्रीताः प्रसन्नाः सन्तु मे सदा ॥२॥

रुद्र लोके च ये सर्पाः तक्षकः प्रमुखास्तथा । नमोऽस्तु तेभ्यः सुप्रीताः प्रसन्नाः सन्तु मे सदा ॥३॥

खाण्डवस्य तथा दाहे स्वर्गन्च ये च समाश्रिताः । नमोऽस्तु तेभ्यः सुप्रीताः प्रसन्नाः सन्तु मे सदा ॥४॥

सर्प सत्रे च ये सर्पाः अस्थिकेनाभि रक्षिताः । नमोऽस्तु तेभ्यः सुप्रीताः प्रसन्नाः सन्तु मे सदा ॥५॥

प्रलये चैव ये सर्पाः कार्कोट प्रमुखाश्चये । नमोऽस्तु तेभ्यः सुप्रीताः प्रसन्नाः सन्तु मे सदा ॥६॥

Meaning & Translation

Verse 1
Agastya, Pulastya, Vaishampayana, Sumantu, and Jaimini – these five sages are the protectors from lightning.
Verse 2
By chanting the names of the sage Kalyanamitra and Jaimini, there is no fear of lightning or fire, as written in the household mandala.
Verse 3
Ananta, Vasuki, Padma, Mahapadma, Takshaka, Kulira, Karkata, and Shankha – these are the eight prominent Nagas.
Verse 4
Where Lord Vishnu (Hari), who reclines on a serpent, resides, there the thunderbolt itself is broken; what then of a mere spear?

Ananta, Vasuki, Shesha, Padmanabha, Kambala, Shankhapala, Dhritarashtra, Takshaka, and Kaliya – these are the nine great Nagas.
Verse 6
These nine names of the great Nagas should be recited daily in the evening, and especially in the morning. For one who recites them, there is no fear of poison, and they become victorious everywhere.

Om, let us meditate on the nine clans of serpents, and on the one with poisonous fangs. May that serpent inspire and enlighten us.

To those serpents in Vishnu Loka, with Vasuki as their chief, I offer my salutations. May they always be pleased and gracious to me.

To those serpents in Rudra Loka, with Takshaka as their chief, I offer my salutations. May they always be pleased and gracious to me.

To those serpents who took refuge in heaven during the burning of Khandava forest, I offer my salutations. May they always be pleased and gracious to me.

To those serpents who were protected by Astika during the Sarpa Satra (snake sacrifice), I offer my salutations. May they always be pleased and gracious to me.

To those serpents, with Karkota as their chief, who exist during the cosmic dissolution (Pralaya), I offer my salutations. May they always be pleased and gracious to me.

To those serpents in Dharma Loka, who reside in the Vaitarani river, I offer my salutations. May they always be pleased and gracious to me.

You remove all the sufferings of life, and you fill the laps of barren women (with children).

When one takes your name with a true heart, O Shri Teja Tara Jagadeva.

Your glory is boundless, grant me my desired boons, O wish-fulfilling one.

You performed the divine play of 'Hur' in Bengal, accompanied by brother Bhairava.

You showed miracles to Tailan, making him bow repeatedly.

You freed Shri Bhairava from Ghana, and arranged his marriage with Mother Padma.

You arranged the union with Shri Vishnu, and as Vasunaga, you prepared his bed.

When war broke out between gods and demons, you became the churning rope (Mandara mountain's rope).
