यद्गुह्यं परमं लोके सर्वरक्षाकरं नृणाम्। यन्न कस्यचिदाख्यातं तन्मे ब्रूहि पितामह॥

अस्ति गुह्यतमं विप्र सर्वभूतोपकारकम्। देव्यास्तु कवचं पुण्यं तच्छृणुष्व महामुने॥

प्रथमं शैलपुत्री च द्वितीयं ब्रह्मचारिणी। तृतीयं चन्द्रघण्टेति कूष्माण्डेति चतुर्थकम्॥

पञ्चमं स्कन्दमातेति षष्ठं कात्यायनीति च। सप्तमं कालरात्रीति महागौरीति चाष्टमम्॥

नवमं सिद्धिदात्री च नवदुर्गाः प्रकीर्तिताः। उक्तान्येतानि नामानि ब्रह्मणैव महात्मना॥

अग्निना दह्यमानस्तु शत्रुमध्ये गतो रणे। विषम दुर्गमे चैव भयार्ताः शरणं गताः॥

न तेषां जायते किंचिदशुभं रणसंकटे। न तेषां भयमस्ति क्वचिद्देवीं स्मरताम् नृणाम्॥

ब्राह्मी हंससमारूढा सर्वाभरणभूषिता। इत्येता मातरः सर्वाः सर्वयोगसमन्विताः॥

नाना रत्नोपशोभाढ्या नाना रत्नविभूषिताः। दृश्यन्ते रथमारूढा देव्यः क्रोधसमाकुलाः॥

शंखं चक्रं गदां शक्तिं हलं च मुसलायुधम्। खेटकं तोमरं चैव परशुं पाशमेव च॥

कुन्तायुधं त्रिशूलं च शार्ङ्गमायुधमुत्तमम्। दैत्यानां देहनाशाय भक्तानामभयाय च॥

धारयन्त्यायुधानीत्थं देवानां च हिताय वै। नमस्तेऽस्तु महा रौद्रे महाघोर पराक्रमे॥

महाबले महोत्साहे महाभय विनाशिनि। पाहि मां देवि दुष्प्रेक्ष्ये शत्रूणां भयवर्धिनि॥

प्राच्यां रक्षतु मामैन्द्री आग्नेय्यामग्निदेवता। दक्षिणेऽवतु वाराही नैर्ऋत्यां खड्गधारिणी॥

प्रतीच्यां वारुणी रक्षेद् वायव्यां मृगवाहिनी। उदीच्यां पातु कौमारी ऐशान्यां शूलधारिणी॥

ऊर्ध्वं ब्रह्माणी मे रक्षेद् अधस्ताद् वैष्णवी तथा। एवं दश दिशो रक्षेच्चामुण्डा शववाहना॥

जया मे चाग्रतः पातु विजया पातु पृष्ठतः। अजिता वामपार्श्वे तु दक्षिणे चापराजिता॥

शिखामुद्योतिनी रक्षेदुमा मूर्ध्नि व्यवस्थिता। मालाधरी ललाटे च भ्रुवौ रक्षेद् यशस्विनी॥

नेत्रयोश्चित्रनेत्रा च यमघण्टा च नासिके। शंखिनी चक्षुषोर्मध्ये श्रोत्रयोर्द्वारवासिनी॥

कपोलौ कालिका रक्षेत् कर्णमूले तु शांकरी। नासिकायां सुगन्धा च उत्तरोष्ठे च चर्चिका॥

अधरे चामृता रक्षेद् दन्तान् रक्षतु कौशिकी। चिबुके चण्डिका रक्षेन्मुखं सर्वेश्वरी तथा॥

कण्ठं रक्षतु कल्याणी ग्रीवां रक्षतु शांकरी। घण्टिकां चित्रघण्टा च महामाया च तालुके॥

कामाक्षी चिबुकं रक्षेद् वाचं मे सर्वमङ्गला। रसनायां सरस्वती च दन्तान् रक्षतु कौशिकी॥

स्तनौ रक्षतु माहेशी कुक्षिं रक्षतु वैष्णवी। कुक्षौ रक्षतु ब्रह्माणी हृदयं रक्षतु अम्बिका॥

शूलधारिणी मे रक्षेत् स्कन्धौ वज्रधारिणी। बाहू मे चक्रिणी रक्षेद् हस्तौ रक्षतु दण्डिनी॥

अंगुलीश्च तथा लक्ष्मीः नखान् रक्षतु शांकरी। रोमकूपान् कौबेरी त्वचं रक्षतु चण्डिका॥

रक्तमांसमजा मेदः पातु पार्वती सर्वदा। अन्त्राणि कालरात्री च पित्तं च मुकुटेश्वरी॥

पद्मावती गुदं रक्षेत् कामिनी मेढ्रमेव च। कटिं भगवती रक्षेद् ऊरू मे नारसिंहिका॥

जंघे मे वैष्णवी रक्षेद् जानुनी विन्ध्यवासिनी। पादौ मे महालक्ष्मीः पादपृष्ठे तु शांकरी॥

पादाग्रे पातु ब्रह्माणी पादाधस्तात् तु वैष्णवी। नखान् रक्षतु कौमारी सर्वांगं सर्वमङ्गला॥

रक्षाहिनं तु यत्स्थानं वर्जितं कवचेन तु। तत्सर्वं रक्ष मे देवि जयन्ती पापनाशिनी॥

इदं तु कवचं देव्याः कल्पवृक्षसमं स्मृतम्। यः पठेत् प्रयतो नित्यं स सर्वान् कामानवाप्नुयात्॥

सर्वमङ्गलमाङ्गल्ये शिवे सर्वार्थसाधिके। शरण्ये त्र्यम्बके गौरि नारायणि नमोऽस्तु ते॥

Verse 1
Om, Salutations to Chandika (Goddess Durga).

Markandeya said:
Verse 3
O Grandfather (Brahma), please tell me that supreme secret which protects all human beings in the world, and which has not been revealed to anyone else.

Brahma said:
Verse 5
O Brahmana, there is a most secret and sacred Kavach (armor) of the Goddess, which is beneficial to all beings. Listen to it, O great sage.

First is Shailaputri, second is Brahmacharini, third is Chandraghanta, and fourth is Kushmanda.
Verse 7
Fifth is Skandamata, sixth is Katyayani, seventh is Kalaratri, and eighth is Mahagauri.
Verse 8
Ninth is Siddhidatri; these nine Durgas are thus glorified. These names have been declared by the great Brahma himself.

One who is being consumed by fire, or has gone amidst enemies in battle, or is in a difficult and inaccessible place, or is afflicted by fear and seeks refuge (in the Goddess).

No misfortune befalls them in the crisis of battle. No fear ever comes to those people who remember the Goddess.

Adorned with various beautiful jewels, decorated with various gems, these goddesses are seen mounted on chariots, filled with wrath.

Conch, discus, mace, spear, plough, and club as weapons. Shield, javelin, axe, and noose as well.

Spear, trident, and the excellent bow Sharanga as weapons. For the destruction of the bodies of demons and for the fearlessness of devotees.

Thus holding weapons for the welfare of the gods. Salutations to you, O greatly fierce one, of terrible valor.

O greatly powerful, greatly enthusiastic, destroyer of great fear. Protect me, O Goddess, who is difficult to behold, and who increases the fear of enemies.

May Indrani protect me in the East. May Agni Devata (Agneyi) protect me in the Southeast. May Varahi protect me in the South. May Khadgadharini (Nairruti) protect me in the Southwest.

May Varuni protect me in the West. May Mrigavahini (Vayavi) protect me in the Northwest. May Kaumari protect me in the North. May Shuladharini (Ishani) protect me in the Northeast.

May Amrita protect my lower lip, and Kaushiki my teeth. May Chandika protect my chin, and Sarveshwari my entire face.
