പ്രദക്ഷിണം പ്രചരതി ശിവോ മേ പരമേശ്വരഃ। തസ്യ വിഘ്നവിനാശായ പ്രണമന്തി ദിനേദിനേ॥

അഥ കവചമ്। ഋഷഭ ഉവാച। നമസ്കൃത്വാ മഹാദേവം വിശ്വവ്യാപകമീശ്വരമ്।

നമസ്കൃത്വാ ഗതിം മുക്തിം വിരാഗം പരമേശ്വരമ്। ശ്രീശിവം ഭുവനേശാനം വന്ദേ ദേവം സദാനഘമ്॥

കവചം ശംകരസ്യേദം വ്യാഖ്യാസ്യാമി ഹിതായ തേ। രക്ഷാകരമിതി പ്രോക്തം സർവ്വപാപവിനാശനമ്॥

സദാശിവോ മേ ശിരഃ പാതു ഓംകാരഃ പാതു മസ്തകമ്। വർഗേശ്വരഃ ശിരോപാതു ബാലാനാം നരദേവതാം॥

മഹാവീരഃ കപോലൗ മേ നേത്രേ ദേവോ സദാശിവഃ। ശ്രോത്രേ പാതു മമ ദേവോ ദക്ഷിണാമൂർത്തിരീശ്വരഃ॥

ദന്താൻ മേ പാതു ഗിരീശഃ കാമദേവോ മമാധരൗ। ജിഹ്വാം മേ പാതു സർവജ്ഞോ ദേവോ സര്വാമരപ്രിയഃ॥

നാസികാം മേ സുരേഷ്വേന്ദ്രോ വാചാ മേ സർവദേവതാ। ചിബുകം മേ കാലകാലഃ പാതു ദേവോ മഹേശ്വരഃ॥

കണ്ഠം മേ കാലനാമധൃക് ശിവഃ പാതു സർവദാ। ഭൂതനാഥോ ഹൃദയം മേ പിനാകീ പാതു ഭുജൗ മമ॥

പാർശ്വൗ മേ പാതു സർവജ്ഞഃ സർവദേവസ്യ പൃഷ്ഠതഃ। ഉദരം മേ പാതു സർവജ്ഞോ നാഭിം മേ പാതു ശങ്കരഃ॥

ഉരുദ്വയൻ വിരൂപാക്ഷോ ലിംഗം മേ ഭഗവാൻ ശിവഃ। ഗുഹ്യം മേ പാതു സർവജ്ഞോ ഗുഹ്യനാഥോ മഹേശ്വരഃ॥

ജാനുദ്വയം മേ പാതു ദേവോ സർവജ്ഞഃ സദാശിവഃ। ജംഘേ മേ പാതു ദേവേന്ദ്രഃ പാദൗ മേ പരമേശ്വരഃ॥

സർവാംഗം പാതു മേ നിത്യം സർവദേവോ മഹേശ്വരഃ। പ്രഭാതേ പാതു മാം ശംഭുഃ സായം പാതു സദാശിവഃ॥

മധ്യാഹ്നേ പാതു മദ്ധ്യസ്ഥോ നിശീഥേ പാതു നീലലോഹിതഃ। സർവകാലം മഹേശാനഃ സർവകാമഫലപ്രദഃ॥

മമ ദേവോ മഹാവീരഃ സദാ പാതു സദാനഘഃ। ഇതീദം കവചം ദിവ്യം ശംകരാര്യം സുദുർല്ലഭമ്॥

പഠേദ്യഃ ശ്രദ്ധയാ നിത്യം ധർമ്മാംശ്ച സകലാൻ ലഭേത്। യഥാ ദേവോ മഹാവീരഃ സർവജ്ഞഃ സർവകാമദഃ॥

തഥാ സർവകവചാനി ശിവസ്യ ബ്രഹ്മണോ ഹരേഃ। ഏതത്കവചമാഖ്യാതം യഃ പഠേച്ഛിവസന്നിധൗ॥

തസ്യ സർവഭയനഷ്ടം പാപം സർവം വിനശ്യതി। ഭൂർഭുവഃ സ്വഃ സർവതഃ പാതു ദേവോ ദേവസ്യ ശങ്കരഃ॥

യേനം യേന ച ഗച്ഛേത തേന തേനാഭിരക്ഷതു। ഏവം ഹി ശിവകവചം മയോകതം പരമം ശുഭമ്॥

സർവപാപഹരം പുണ്യം സർവ്വദാ ശുഭദം ശുഭമ്। ഇതീദം കവചം ദിവ്യം സർവസിദ്ധിപ്രദായകം॥

ഏതത്കവചം യോ ധാരയേത് തസ്യ സർവം ഭയം നശേത്। സർവം കർമ്മഫലം നശ്യേത് സർവം പാപം വിനശ്യതി॥

Meaning & Translation

Verse 1

For this Atirudra Kavacham, Sage Rishabha Yogishvara is the Rishi (seer), Sri Samba Sadashiva is the Devata (deity), Anushtubh is the Chandas (meter), Om is the Bija (seed), Namah is the Shakti (power), Shivaya is the Kilakam (pivot). Its recitation is performed for the gratification of Sri Samba Sadashiva.

Verse 2

I salute Shambhu, the great Lord, who has thunderbolt-like teeth, three eyes, a blue throat, who is the vanquisher of enemies, has a thousand hands, and is exceedingly fierce.

Verse 3

Lord Shiva, my Supreme Lord, moves in my circumambulation. Daily, I bow down to Him for the destruction of obstacles.

Verse 4

Now the Kavach. Rishabha said: Having bowed down to the great God, the all-pervading Ishwara,

Verse 5

Having bowed down, I invoke the path to liberation, detachment, and the Supreme Lord. I bow to the ever-sinless Lord Shiva, the master of the universe.

I shall now explain this Kavach of Shankara for your benefit, which is said to be protective and destroys all sins.

May Sadashiva protect my head; may Omkara protect my forehead. May Vargeshwara protect my scalp, and the deity of humans protect my hair.

May Mahavira protect my cheeks, may Lord Sadashiva protect my eyes. May Lord Dakshinamurti, the Ishwara, protect my ears.

Verse 9

May Girisha protect my teeth, may Kamadeva protect my lips. May the all-knowing Lord, beloved of all gods, protect my tongue.

Verse 10

May the chief of gods protect my nose, may all deities protect my speech. May Mahakala, the Lord of time, protect my chin.

Verse 11

May Shiva, who holds the name of time, always protect my throat. May Bhutnatha protect my heart, and Pinaki protect my arms.

Verse 12

May the all-knowing Lord protect my sides, and the protector of all gods protect my back. May the all-knowing Lord protect my belly, and Shankara protect my navel.

Verse 13

May Virupaksha protect my thighs, may Lord Shiva protect my private parts. May the all-knowing Lord, the secret Lord, Maheshwara protect my secrets (genitals).

Verse 14

May the all-knowing Sadashiva protect my knees. May Devendra protect my shanks, and Parameshwara protect my feet.

Verse 15

May the all-god Maheshwara always protect all my limbs. May Shambhu protect me in the morning, and Sadashiva protect me in the evening.

Verse 16

May the One in the middle protect me at noon, and Nilalohita protect me at midnight. May the great Lord, the bestower of all desires, protect me at all times.

May my Lord, the great hero, the ever sinless one, always protect me. This divine Kavach of Shankara is very rare.

He who recites this daily with faith attains all righteousness and all desires, just as the great hero Lord, the all-knowing, grants all wishes.

Wherever he may go, may he be protected there. Thus, this Shiva Kavacham, which I have recited, is supremely auspicious.

It removes all sins, bestows merit, is always auspicious, and good. This divine Kavach grants all Siddhis (spiritual powers).

Whoever wears this Kavach, all his fears are destroyed. All karmic consequences are nullified, and all sins are vanquished.
