Meaning & Translation

Verse 1

Bowing my head to the Lord Ganesha, the son of Gauri, who dwells in the hearts of devotees, I remember Him daily for the fulfillment of desires related to long life and prosperity.

Verse 2

First, (He is known as) Vakratunda (the one with a twisted trunk); second, as Ekadanta (the one with a single tusk); third, as Krishnapingaksha (the one with dark reddish-brown eyes); fourth, as Gajavaktra (the one with an elephant face).

Verse 3

Fifth, as Lambodara (the one with a big belly); and sixth, as Vikata (the formidable one); seventh, as Vighnarajendra (the king of obstacle removers); and eighth, as Dhoomravarna (the one of smoke-like color).

Verse 4

Ninth, as Balachandra (the one with a crescent moon on His forehead); and tenth, as Vinayaka (the supreme leader); eleventh, as Ganapati (the lord of Ganas); and twelfth, as Gajanana (the one with an elephant face).

Verse 5

The person who recites these twelve names at dawn, noon, and dusk, will never face obstacles, and all their endeavors, O Lord, will be accomplished.

Verse 6

A student attains knowledge; a wealth-seeker attains wealth; a child-seeker attains children; and a liberation-seeker attains liberation (the ultimate goal).

Verse 7

One who chants this Ganapati Stotram for six months attains results, and in a year, attains perfection; there is no doubt about it.

Verse 8

The one who writes this (stotram) and offers it to eight Brahmins, by the grace of Ganesha, all his knowledge will become complete.
