Meaning & Translation

Verse 1
I bow to Vishnu, the Lord of all, who is of peaceful disposition, who reclines on the serpent (Sheshanaga), from whose navel sprouts the lotus, the Lord of gods, the support of the universe, who is omnipresent like the sky, of the color of a cloud, with beautiful limbs. The beloved of Lakshmi, with lotus-like eyes, approachable by yogis through meditation. He removes the fear of worldly existence.
Verse 2
I bow to Vishnu, the sole Lord of all worlds, who is dark like a cloud, clad in yellow silken garments, bearing the mark of Sri Vatsa (on his chest), whose body is radiant with the Kaustubha gem, endowed with auspiciousness, and having wide lotus-like eyes.
Verse 3
Om, the Purusha (Cosmic Being) has a thousand heads, a thousand eyes, and a thousand feet. He encompasses the Earth from all sides and extends beyond it by ten fingers' breadth. (This verse is from the Purusha Suktam, often recited as an invocation to Vishnu).
Verse 4
Om, We know Narayana, we meditate on Vasudeva. May Vishnu enlighten us. (This is the Vishnu Gayatri Mantra, a powerful prayer for divine guidance).
