প্রাচীনকালে এক দরিদ্রা বৃদ্ধা বাস করতেন। তিনি ভগবান গণেশের পরম ভক্ত ছিলেন। সারাদিন পরিশ্রম করে যা কিছু উপার্জন করতেন, তার কিছু অংশ গণেশের পূজার জন্য ব্যয় করতেন। কিন্তু তাঁর দিন কাটছিল খুব কষ্টে। তিনি গণেশকে স্মরণ করে তাঁর কাছে নিজের দুঃখ নিবেদন করতেন।

একদিন গণেশ তাঁর ভক্তের প্রতি সন্তুষ্ট হয়ে বৃদ্ধার স্বপ্নে এলেন এবং বললেন, 'হে ভক্ত, তুমি কি আমাকে তোমার বাড়িতে নিমন্ত্রণ করবে? আমি তোমার সব দুঃখ দূর করে দেবো।' বৃদ্ধা ঘুম থেকে উঠে আনন্দে আত্মহারা হলেন এবং গণেশের জন্য একটি ছোট্ট মূর্তি তৈরি করে স্থাপন করলেন।

এরপর বৃদ্ধা প্রতি মঙ্গলবার গণেশ ব্রত পালন করতে শুরু করলেন। তিনি নিষ্ঠা সহকারে গণেশের পূজা করতেন এবং উপবাস থাকতেন। ধীরে ধীরে তাঁর অবস্থার পরিবর্তন হতে লাগলো। তাঁর বাড়িতে ধন-সম্পদের বৃদ্ধি ঘটলো এবং তিনি আর দরিদ্র থাকলেন না।

গ্রামের অন্যান্য লোকেরা তাঁর এই পরিবর্তন দেখে অবাক হলো। তারা বৃদ্ধাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলো, 'তুমি কিভাবে এত ধনী হলে?' বৃদ্ধা সব ঘটনা খুলে বললেন এবং সবাইকে গণেশ ব্রত পালনের জন্য উৎসাহিত করলেন।

এরপর সবাই গণেশের মহিমা বুঝতে পারলো এবং শ্রদ্ধাপূর্বক গণেশ ব্রত পালন করতে শুরু করলো। যে যেই মনস্কামনা নিয়ে এই ব্রত পালন করলো, গণেশের কৃপায় তাদের সেই মনস্কামনা পূর্ণ হলো। এইভাবে গণেশের কৃপায় সবার জীবন সুখ ও শান্তিতে ভরে উঠলো।

Verse 1

Once, Lord Shri Ganesha, out of compassion for his devotees, appeared on earth to narrate the Vrat Katha. Devraj Indra, Brahma, and all other gods and goddesses praised Him and wished to hear the Vrat Katha. Ganesha said, 'All devotees who listen to this Vrat Katha with reverence will have all their sorrows removed and all their desires fulfilled.'

Verse 2

In ancient times, there lived a poor old woman. She was a great devotee of Lord Ganesha. Whatever she earned through her day's hard work, she would spend a portion of it on Ganesha's worship. But her days passed in great hardship. She would remember Ganesha and present her sorrows before Him.

Verse 3

One day, Ganesha, pleased with His devotee, came into the old woman's dream and said, 'O devotee, will you invite me to your home? I will remove all your sorrows.' The old woman woke up overjoyed and, in her happiness, made a small idol of Ganesha and installed it.

Verse 4

Thereafter, the old woman began observing the Ganesha Vrat every Tuesday. She worshipped Ganesha with utmost devotion and observed a fast. Gradually, her circumstances began to change. Wealth and prosperity increased in her home, and she was no longer poor.

Other villagers were surprised to see her transformation. They asked the old woman, 'How did you become so wealthy?' The old woman narrated the entire incident and encouraged everyone to observe the Ganesha Vrat.

After this, everyone understood Ganesha's glory and began observing the Ganesha Vrat with reverence. Whatever desire they held while observing this Vrat, by Ganesha's grace, those desires were fulfilled. In this way, by Ganesha's grace, everyone's life was filled with happiness and peace.
