একবার এক গ্রামে এক দরিদ্র ব্রাহ্মণ বাস করিতেন। তিনি অত্যন্ত ধার্মিক ছিলেন কিন্তু দারিদ্র্যে জর্জরিত ছিলেন।

ভগবান বিষ্ণু একদিন ব্রাহ্মণের এই দুর্দশা দেখিয়া এক বৃদ্ধ সাধুর বেশে তাঁহার সম্মুখে উপস্থিত হইলেন।

সাধু ব্রাহ্মণকে বলিলেন, "হে পুত্র, তুমি প্রতি বৃহস্পতিবার নিষ্ঠা সহকারে শ্রী বিষ্ণু ব্রত পালন করো। ইহাতে তোমার সকল দুঃখ দূর হইবে।"

ব্রাহ্মণে সাধুর উপদেশ পালন করিয়া নিষ্ঠা সহকারে ব্রত আরম্ভ করিলেন। তিনি উপবাস থাকিয়া শ্রী বিষ্ণুর পূজা করিতেন।

কিছুকাল পরে ব্রাহ্মণের গৃহে সুখ ও সমৃদ্ধি ফিরিয়া আসিল। তিনি আর দরিদ্র রহিলেন না এবং সুখে জীবনযাপন করিতে লাগিলেন।

এই ব্রতকথা শ্রবণ ও পালন করিলে শ্রী বিষ্ণুর কৃপায় সকল মনোবাঞ্ছা পূর্ণ হয় এবং সংসারে শান্তি বিরাজ করে।

Verse 1
Once, in a village, lived a poor Brahmin. He was very pious but afflicted by poverty.

One day, Lord Vishnu, seeing the plight of the Brahmin, appeared before him in the guise of an old sage.
Verse 3
The sage told the Brahmin, "Oh son, you should observe the Sri Vishnu Vrat every Thursday with devotion. This will remove all your sorrows."
Verse 4
The Brahmin followed the sage's advice and began the fast with devotion. He fasted and worshipped Lord Vishnu.
Verse 5
After some time, happiness and prosperity returned to the Brahmin's home. He was no longer poor and began to live happily.
Verse 6
By listening to and observing this Vrat Katha, by the grace of Sri Vishnu, all desires are fulfilled and peace reigns in the family.
