ଓଁ ନମୋ ଭଗବତେ ବାସୁଦେବାୟ। ଶ୍ରୀ ବିଷ୍ଣୁ ବ୍ରତ କଥା ଶ୍ରବଣ କରିବା ଦ୍ୱାରା ମନୁଷ୍ୟ ସମସ୍ତ ପାପରୁ ମୁକ୍ତ ହୋଇ ସୁଖ, ସମୃଦ୍ଧି ଓ ମୁକ୍ତି ଲାଭ କରିଥାଏ। ଏହି ବ୍ରତ ସମସ୍ତ ମନସ୍କାମନା ପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ କରିଥାଏ।

ପ୍ରାଚୀନ କାଳରେ, ଏକ ଗ୍ରାମରେ ଧନହୀନ ଓ ଦୁଃଖୀ ଜଣେ ବ୍ରାହ୍ମଣ ରହୁଥିଲେ। ତାଙ୍କ ନାମ ଥିଲା ସୁଦାମା। ସୁଦାମା ଅତ୍ୟନ୍ତ ଧର୍ମପରାୟଣ ଥିଲେ ମଧ୍ୟ ଦାରିଦ୍ର୍ୟରେ ପିଡ଼ିତ ଥିଲେ।

ତାଙ୍କ ଘରେ ଦୁଇବେଳା ଭୋଜନ ମଧ୍ୟ ଠିକ୍ ଭାବେ ମିଳୁନଥିଲା। ସେ ସର୍ବଦା ନିଜର ଦୁର୍ଦ୍ଦଶାକୁ ନେଇ ଚିନ୍ତିତ ରହୁଥିଲେ। ଦିନେ ସେ ଜଣେ ମହାତ୍ମାଙ୍କ ଶରଣ ପଶିଲେ।

ମହାତ୍ମା ସୁଦାମାଙ୍କୁ ଦେଖି ତାଙ୍କ ଦୁଃଖର କାରଣ ପଚାରିଲେ। ସୁଦାମା ନିଜର ସମସ୍ତ ଦୁଃଖ ବର୍ଣ୍ଣନା କଲେ। ମହାତ୍ମା ତାଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ, "ହେ ବ୍ରାହ୍ମଣ! ତୁମେ ଭଗବାନ ବିଷ୍ଣୁଙ୍କ ବ୍ରତ ପାଳନ କର।"

ମହାତ୍ମା ଆହୁରି କହିଲେ, "ପ୍ରତ୍ୟେକ ଗୁରୁବାର ଦିନ ଭଗବାନ ବିଷ୍ଣୁଙ୍କୁ ପୂଜା କର। ତାଙ୍କୁ ହଳଦୀ, ଚନ୍ଦନ, ଫୁଲ ଓ ତୁଳସୀ ଅର୍ପଣ କର। ଏହି କଥା ଶ୍ରବଣ କର ଏବଂ ନିଷ୍ଠାର ସହିତ ବ୍ରତ ପାଳନ କର।"

ମହାତ୍ମାଙ୍କ କଥା ଶୁଣି ସୁଦାମା ଅତ୍ୟନ୍ତ ପ୍ରସନ୍ନ ହେଲେ। ସେ ପ୍ରତି ଗୁରୁବାର ଦିନ ନିଷ୍ଠାର ସହିତ ଭଗବାନ ବିଷ୍ଣୁଙ୍କ ବ୍ରତ ପାଳନ କରିବାକୁ ଲାଗିଲେ। ସେ ଭକ୍ତିପୂର୍ବକ ପୂଜା କରୁଥିଲେ ଓ କଥା ଶୁଣୁଥିଲେ।

ସୁଦାମାଙ୍କ ଭକ୍ତିରେ ସନ୍ତୁଷ୍ଟ ହୋଇ ଭଗବାନ ବିଷ୍ଣୁ ତାଙ୍କ ଉପରେ ପ୍ରସନ୍ନ ହେଲେ। ଧୀରେ ଧୀରେ ତାଙ୍କର ଦାରିଦ୍ର୍ୟ ଦୂର ହେଲା ଏବଂ ତାଙ୍କ ଘରେ ଧନଧାନ୍ୟରେ ପୂରିଗଲା।

ସୁଦାମା ଏବଂ ତାଙ୍କ ପରିବାର ଅତ୍ୟନ୍ତ ସୁଖ ଓ ଶାନ୍ତିରେ ଜୀବନ ବିତାଇଲେ। ସେ ଭଗବାନ ବିଷ୍ଣୁଙ୍କର ଅନ୍ତରଙ୍ଗ ଭକ୍ତ ହୋଇ ରହିଲେ ଏବଂ ଅନ୍ୟମାନଙ୍କୁ ମଧ୍ୟ ଏହି ବ୍ରତ ପାଳନ କରିବାକୁ ପ୍ରେରିତ କଲେ।

ଯେଉଁ ବ୍ୟକ୍ତି ନିଷ୍ଠାର ସହିତ ଶ୍ରୀ ବିଷ୍ଣୁ ବ୍ରତ କଥା ଶ୍ରବଣ କରେ ଏବଂ ବ୍ରତ ପାଳନ କରେ, ତାଙ୍କର ସମସ୍ତ ମନସ୍କାମନା ପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ହୁଏ, ରୋଗ ଦୂର ହୁଏ, ଶତ୍ରୁ ନାଶ ହୁଏ ଏବଂ ଶେଷରେ ମୋକ୍ଷ ପ୍ରାପ୍ତ ହୁଏ।

Meaning & Translation

Verse 1
Om Salutations to Lord Vasudeva. By listening to the Shri Vishnu Vrat Katha, a person becomes free from all sins and attains happiness, prosperity, and liberation. This Vrat fulfills all desires.
Verse 2
In ancient times, there lived a poor and distressed Brahmin in a village. His name was Sudama. Although Sudama was extremely devout, he was afflicted by poverty.
Verse 3
Even two meals a day were not properly available in his house. He was always worried about his misfortune. One day, he sought refuge with a great saint.
Verse 4
The great saint, seeing Sudama, asked the reason for his sorrow. Sudama described all his miseries. The saint told him, "O Brahmin! You should observe the fast of Lord Vishnu."
Verse 5
The saint further said, "On every Thursday, worship Lord Vishnu. Offer Him turmeric, sandalwood, flowers, and Tulsi. Listen to this story and observe the fast with devotion."
Verse 6
Hearing the words of the great saint, Sudama became very pleased. He began to observe the fast of Lord Vishnu with devotion every Thursday. He worshipped with reverence and listened to the story.
Verse 7
Pleased by Sudama's devotion, Lord Vishnu was gracious to him. Slowly, his poverty disappeared, and his house was filled with wealth and grains.
Verse 8
Sudama and his family lived a life of great happiness and peace. He remained an intimate devotee of Lord Vishnu and inspired others to observe this fast as well.
Verse 9
Any person who listens to the Shri Vishnu Vrat Katha with devotion and observes the fast, all their desires are fulfilled, diseases are cured, enemies are vanquished, and finally, liberation is attained.
