How to take Sankalp for Vishnu Sahasranamam?
To take Sankalp (a formal declaration of intent) before chanting Vishnu Sahasranamam, sit in a clean place, facing east or north. Hold a little water, rice, and a flower in your right palm. Recite the Sankalp mantra, stating your name, gotra (lineage), the purpose of the chanting (e.g., for peace, prosperity, health, or spiritual growth), and your intention to chant the Sahasranamam. Then, pour the contents from your palm into a plate or discard bowl, symbolizing the dedication of your intent to the divine. A simple Sankalp could be: "Aham (your name) mama gotrasya (your gotra) sarva mangala prāptyartham, samasta duḥkha nivṛttyartham, Vishnu Sahasranamam pāṭham kariṣye." (I, (your name), of (your gotra), for the attainment of all auspiciousness and removal of all sorrows, will recite Vishnu Sahasranamam.)
