Meaning & Translation

Verse 1
Hail, Lord Shiva, the Omkara! Oh, hail Lord Shiva, the Omkara! You, who are Brahma, Vishnu, and Sadashiva, holding Ardhaangini (half of your body as Shakti). Oh, hail Lord Shiva, the Omkara!
Verse 2
With one face, four faces, and five faces you shine. (Referring to Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, or Shiva's own forms). You ride on a swan (Brahma), Garuda (Vishnu), and a bull (Nandi for Shiva). Oh, hail Lord Shiva, the Omkara!
Verse 3
With two arms, four arms, and ten arms you appear exceptionally beautiful. Gazing upon your three-गुण (qualities) form, the people of the three worlds are enchanted. Oh, hail Lord Shiva, the Omkara!
Verse 4
You adorn white garments (Vishnu), yellow garments (Brahma), and tiger skin (Shiva) on your body. Sanaka and other sages, Garuda and others, and various spirits and beings accompany you. Oh, hail Lord Shiva, the Omkara!
Verse 5
In your hands, you hold the Kamandalu (water pot), Chakra (discus), and Trishul (trident). You are the creator, sustainer, and destroyer of the world. Oh, hail Lord Shiva, the Omkara!
Verse 6
Brahma, Vishnu, and Sadashiva are known to the ignorant as separate. But within the sacred syllable 'Om' (Pranava), these three are one. Oh, hail Lord Shiva, the Omkara!
Verse 7
Lakshmi, Savitri, and Parvati are your consorts. Parvati is your better half, and the Ganges flows from your matted locks. Oh, hail Lord Shiva, the Omkara!
Verse 8
Parvati resides on the mountain, and Shankar (Shiva) on Kailash. Bhang and Dhatura are his food, and sacred ash (Bhasmi) is his adornment. Oh, hail Lord Shiva, the Omkara!
Verse 9
A crown of matted hair adorns your head, and you bear the crescent moon. Narada and Sharada (Saraswati) serve you, O beloved Lord of the Ganges (Shivalahari). Oh, hail Lord Shiva, the Omkara!
Verse 10
In Kashi, you are Vishwanath (Lord of the Universe), with Nandi, the celibate bull, by your side. Those who rise daily for your darshan (viewing) witness your immense glory. Oh, hail Lord Shiva, the Omkara!
Verse 11
Swami Shivananda says, whoever sings this Aarti of the Lord of the three qualities (Triguna Swami) will attain their desired fruits. Oh, hail Lord Shiva, the Omkara!
