श्री गणेश गिरिजा सुवन, मंगल मूल सुजान।

कहत अयोध्यादास तुम, देहु अभय वरदान॥
3
जय गिरिजा पति दीनदयाला। सदा करत सन्तन प्रतिपाला॥

भाल चन्द्रमा सोहत नीके। कानन कुण्डल नागफनी के॥

अंग गौर शिर गंग बहाये। मुण्डमाल तन क्षार लगाये॥
6
वस्त्र खाल बाघम्बर सोहे। छवि को देखि नाग मन मोहे॥
7
मैना मातु की ह्वै दुलारी। बाम अंग सोहत छवि न्यारी॥
8
कर त्रिशूल सोहत छवि भारी। करत सदा शत्रुन क्षयकारी॥
9
नन्दि गणेश भुजंग समाजा। करत निरन्तर तुम रज काजा॥
10
देवन जबहीं जाय पुकारा। तबहिं दुख प्रभु आप निवारा॥
11
कियो उपद्रव तारक भारी। देवन सेना हारि पुकारी॥
12
तुरत षडानन आप पठायो। लव निमेष महँ मारि गिरायो॥
13
आप जलंधर असुर संहारा। सुयश तुम्हार विदित संसारा॥
14
त्रिपुरासुर सन युद्ध मचाई। सबहिं कृपा कर लीन बचाई॥
15
कियो तपस्या भागीरथ भारी। पूरब प्रतिज्ञा तासु पुरारी॥
16
देवन कहँ तुमने जब देवा। बहुत कठिन तप कीन महेवा॥
17
सागर मँह अरु कियो उजियारा। कीन्ह अमरपुर भय हर द्वारा॥
18
लक्ष्मी जब तुम समरथ जाने। श्रीनिवास तब रूप बखाने॥
19
क्षोर सागर में करत बिलासा। दुखित दीन के हरत निवासा॥
20
गरल सुधा तब पियुष खाई। जीवनदान सबही को देई॥
21
अमर अजेय तब कियो सुरेशा। सकल अमंगल दूर करेसा॥
22
नारद शारद देव अगाधा। ब्रह्मी ब्यापक तुमहिं प्रसाधा॥

जो नर तुमहिं भक्त चित लावइ। ताको जग में सब सुख पावइ॥
24
जाय मिले सनिचर जन भाई। दुख दारिद नित करत सहाई॥
25
कियो कुनेठा जब जग केरा। लंकपति रावण तुमहिं बखेरा॥
26
रामचन्द्र कीन्हो जब लेखा। तब ते तुमहीं सुमिरन देखा॥
27
काटी कपीश परशुराम का। जय जय जय शिव नाम तुम्हारा॥

असुरन की तुम कियो निवासा। सकल भृगु ऋषि हरत विनाशा॥

गौरी शंकर देव महान। जय जय जय कर करत बखान॥

कियो तपस्या तुम तप धारी। भयो सदा तुम सुख सुखकारी॥

अष्ट सिद्धि नौ निधि के दाता। दीन दुखिन के तुम भाग्य विधाता॥

जब तुम प्रकट भये शिवराय। कलिमल हरन सकल दुख जाय॥
33
वेद पुराण कहइ जस मेरो। ध्यावत हैं सब देव घनेरो॥
34
रूप तुम्हारा अजब निराला। दीन बंधु प्रभु डमरू वाला॥
35
जो नर तुमहीं सुमिरन करई। सब संकट दूर कर भरई॥
36
काहे कष्ट भयो अति भारी। करत सदा तुम सुख सुखकारी॥
37
धन्य धन्य शिव जय जय शंकर। देव शिरोमणि शिव भयंकर॥
38
पूजन रामचन्द्र जब कीन्हा। तब ते तुमने सुख भर दीन्हा॥
39
अज अजन्मा अविनाशी देवा। करत सदा सब असुरन सेवा॥
40
जो यह पाठ करै मन लाई। ता पर होत कृपा शिव साई॥
41
ऋणिया जो कोई मन में ठानै। तुमहिं सुमिरन कर दुख न मानै॥
42
जो कोई शिव चालीसा गावे। दुःख दारिद सब सुख उपजावे॥
43
नित्त नेम कर प्रातः ही, पाठ करौ चालीसा। तुम मेरी मनकामना, पूर्ण करो जगदीश॥

Meaning & Translation

Verse 1
O Shri Ganesha, son of Girija, the source of auspiciousness and wisdom.
Verse 2
Ayodhyadas prays to you, grant the boon of fearlessness.
Verse 3
Glory to the husband of Girija, merciful to the humble. He always protects the saints.
Verse 4
The moon adorns his forehead beautifully. In his ears are earrings of snake-hoods.
Verse 5
His body is fair, the Ganga flows from his head. A garland of skulls adorns his body, smeared with ash.
Verse 6
Tiger skin clothes suit him well. Seeing his image, even serpents are enchanted.
Verse 7
Parvati, the beloved daughter of mother Maina, graces his left side with her unique beauty.
Verse 8
A trident in his hand looks grand. He always destroys his enemies.
Verse 9
Nandi, Ganesha, and a host of serpents, continuously serve your domain.
Verse 10
Whenever the gods cried out for help, O Lord, you dispelled their sorrows.
Verse 11
When Taraka caused great trouble, and the army of gods was defeated, they cried out.
Verse 12
Immediately you sent Kartikeya (Skanda), who slew him in an instant.
Verse 13
You annihilated the demon Jalandhar. Your fame is known throughout the world.
Verse 14
You waged war against Tripurasura. With your grace, you saved everyone.
Verse 15
Bhagirath performed severe penance. You fulfilled his ancient vow.
Verse 16
When you bestowed the Ganga for the gods, O Great Lord, you performed very difficult penance.
Verse 17
You brought light to the ocean (by bringing Ganga). You made the path to Amarapuri (heaven) free from fear.
Verse 18
When Lakshmi knew your power, then she praised your form as Shrinivas (Vishnu, referring to the belief that Shiva is an aspect of the ultimate Brahman who also manifests as Vishnu).
Verse 19
You reside in the milky ocean, removing the sorrows of the distressed and humble.
Verse 20
You consumed the deadly poison as nectar. You gave life to all.
Verse 21
You made the gods immortal and invincible, O Lord of gods. You removed all inauspiciousness.
Verse 22
Nārada, Sharada (Saraswati) and profound gods, Brahma, the all-pervading, worship you.
Verse 23
The person who fixes his mind on you with devotion attains all happiness in the world.
Verse 24
O brother, he who joins with you, Saturn and others (planets) always help in alleviating sorrow and poverty.
Verse 25
When he (Ravana), the king of Lanka, created injustice in the world, he praised you.
Verse 26
When Ramachandra calculated (his strength), then he was seen remembering you.
Verse 27
You severed the head of Daksha's sacrifice, and even Parshuram's pride. Glory, glory, glory to your name, Shiva!
Verse 28
You destroyed the abode of demons. All the Rishis of Bhrigu lineage (and their woes) you removed.
Verse 29
Gauri-Shankar, the great god. Everyone hails and praises you.
Verse 30
You performed penance, O ascetic. You always grant joy and happiness.
Verse 31
You are the giver of eight siddhis and nine nidhis. You are the arbiter of destiny for the poor and suffering.
Verse 32
When you manifested, O King Shiva, all the impurities of Kaliyuga and all sorrows vanish.
Verse 33
Vedas and Puranas sing my praise. All numerous gods meditate upon me.
Verse 34
Your form is wonderfully unique. O Lord, friend of the helpless, wielder of the Damaru (drum).
Verse 35
The person who remembers you, all his troubles are removed and filled with peace.
Verse 36
Why then should there be great suffering? You always bestow joy and happiness.
Verse 37
Blessed, blessed Shiva, glory, glory to Shankara. Jewel among gods, Shiva the formidable.
Verse 38
When Ramachandra worshipped you, then you filled him with happiness.
Verse 39
Unborn, eternal, indestructible God. All demons always serve you (implying control over them).
Verse 40
Whoever recites this with a devoted mind, upon him falls the grace of Lord Shiva.
Verse 41
Whoever, burdened with debt, resolves in his mind (to remember you), by remembering you, he will not feel sorrow.
Verse 42
Whoever sings this Shiva Chalisa, all sorrow and poverty will turn into happiness.
Verse 43
Regularly, every morning, recite this Chalisa. O Lord of the Universe, fulfill my heart's desires.
