Meaning & Translation

Verse 1
O Lord with a curved trunk, a mighty body, and the radiance of a million suns, please make all my endeavors free of obstacles, always.
Verse 2
Om, Salutations to Shiva. O Benevolent Shiva, Great God.
Verse 3
The king of Kailasa, with matted locks and the moon on his forehead. Adorned with ash on his body, he appears as Bhasmeshwara (Lord of Ash).
Verse 4
A snake adorns his neck, in his hands are the trident and drum. The drum beats 'dam dam', and the conch roars.
Verse 5
Your name is Nilakantha (blue-throated), you drank the poison. O God, for your devotees, you endured hardships.
Verse 6
Performing the Tandava dance, the universe quivers. The lord of the three worlds, you are the true God.
Verse 7
Ganga flows from his head, the crescent moon adorns his forehead. With showers of grace, he pleases all living beings.
Verse 8
The primordial and beginningless God, you are the controller of the universe. Loving towards devotees, innocent, you are our protector.
Verse 9
Shankara, you are the giver, you are the path to liberation. By your grace, O God, life attains heaven.

You remove poverty and sorrow, you dispel fear and worry. To one who worships with devotion, you grant peace.

You are the father, you are the mother, you are the brother and friend. Without you in this world, who do we have?

You are the form of Om, the Lord of the cosmic form. You always dwell in meditation, within our hearts, O Lord.

Dwelling in the cremation ground, your form is of an ascetic. Nandi is your vehicle, ganas (attendants) surround you.

Lord of Parvati, the confluence of Shiva and Shakti. The form of Ardhanarishwara, divine and incomparable.

God of Gods, Mahadev, knower of three times, beyond three gunas. You are the true bestower of liberation, you are eternal welfare.

Offering Bilva leaves, performing Abhishek with water. O Mahadeva, be pleased, removing the sorrows of devotees.

Whoever recites this hymn daily with love. All sorrows end, and desires truly manifest.

Sons, grandsons, wealth, grains, health, and prosperity are gained. By Shiva's grace, happiness shines in their life.

At the end of life, liberation is attained, residence in Shiva's abode. There is no rebirth for them, such is your promise.
Verse 20
Whoever sings the glory of Shiva Path. All their sins will surely turn to dust.
