Meaning & Translation

Verse 1
To Him who has the king of snakes as a garland, who has three eyes, whose body is smeared with sacred ash, who is the Great Lord; who is eternal, pure, and naked (clad by directions), to that 'Na' form, Salutations to Shiva.
Verse 2
To Him who is worshipped with the water of the Mandakini river and sandal paste, who is the Lord of Nandi and the host of Pramathas, the Great Lord; who is well-worshipped with Mandara flowers and many other flowers, to that 'Ma' form, Salutations to Shiva.
Verse 3
To Him who is auspicious, who is like the sun for the lotus-like face of Gauri, who destroyed Daksha's sacrifice; to the blue-throated one, who has the bull as His emblem, to that 'Shi' form, Salutations to Shiva.
Verse 4
To Him who is worshipped by the great sages like Vashishtha, Agastya (Kumbhodbhava), and Gautama, and by gods as the supreme head; who has the moon, sun, and fire as His eyes, to that 'Va' form, Salutations to Shiva.
Verse 5
To Him who has the form of a Yaksha, who has matted locks, who holds the Pinaka bow in His hand, who is eternal; to the divine Lord, who is naked (clad by directions), to that 'Ya' form, Salutations to Shiva.
Verse 6
Whoever recites this sacred Panchakshara (five-syllable) hymn in the presence of Shiva, attains the abode of Shiva and rejoices with Him.
