Verse 1
Although there are many stories of Rakshabandhan, here we are presenting some popular ones. Among these, the first story has religious significance and is recited during worship. The remaining stories are related to the importance of this unique festival, which symbolizes the love between siblings.
Verse 2
Once, Yudhisthira asked Lord Krishna, 'O Achyut! Please narrate to me the story of Rakshabandhan, which removes obstacles from spirits and sorrow from humans.' Lord Krishna said, 'O best of Pandavas! Once, a war broke out between demons and gods, and this war continued for twelve years. The demons defeated the gods and also defeated their representative, Indra.'
Verse 3
In such a situation, Indra, along with the other gods, went to Amaravati. Meanwhile, the victorious demon king took control of all three worlds. He declared from his throne that Indra should not come to the assembly, and gods and humans should not perform yagyas. Everyone should worship him.
Verse 4
Due to this command of the demon king, yagyas, Vedic studies, and festivals ceased. With the destruction of Dharma, the strength of the gods began to wane. Seeing this, Indra went to his Guru Brihaspati and, falling at his feet, pleaded, 'O Guru! In this situation, circumstances dictate that I must give up my life here. I can neither flee nor stand firm on the battlefield. Please tell me a solution.'
Verse 5
Hearing Indra's distress, Brihaspati asked him to perform the Raksha Vidhan (protection ritual). On the morning of Shravan Purnima, the Raksha Vidhan was performed with the following mantra: 'By which the mighty demon king Bali was bound, by that I bind you, O Raksha (protection), do not waver, do not waver.'
Verse 6
On the auspicious occasion of Shravani Purnima, Indrani had the Brahmins perform Swastivachan, took the thread of protection, tied it on Indra's right wrist, and sent him to fight on the battlefield. Due to the effect of 'Rakshabandhan', the demons fled, and Indra was victorious. The tradition of tying Rakhi originates from here.
Verse 7
According to Indian history, even Muslim rulers were devoted to the religious sentiment of Rakshabandhan. Jahangir, upon receiving a protective thread from a Rajput woman, set a unique ideal for society. In this context, Panna's Rakhi is particularly noteworthy. Once, there was a serious conflict between two princely states of Rajasthan. One state was attacked by the Mughals. Seizing the opportunity, the Rajputs of the other state were preparing to assist the Mughals. Panna was also surrounded by these Mughals. She sent a Rakhi to the ruler of the other state, who was going to help the Mughals. As soon as he received the Rakhi, he instead attacked the Mughals. The Mughals were defeated. In this way, the raw thread of Rakshabandhan bound the rulers of both states in a strong bond of friendship.

This incident also establishes the importance of Rakshabandhan.

Verse 13
There is no definitive proof in sacred Hindu scriptures about how Raksha Bandhan began. However, many believe that the origin of this festival is from the story of Lord Indra and Indrani. According to this legend, Raksha Bandhan was first celebrated by tying a Rakhi to the husband. Lord Indra, the god of rain and heaven, had a powerful enemy, the demon Vritra, who almost killed the Lord during a war. Worried by this, Lord Indra's wife, Indrani or Shachi, sought help from Lord Vishnu, who gave Indrani a white cotton thread and asked her to tie it on Lord Indra's wrist for protection. And, we all know how he saved Draupadi after she was lost in a dice game by her husbands.

Yamuna had not seen her brother for twelve years and missed him dearly. Then she went to Mother Ganga for help. Goddess Ganga asked Lord Yama to visit his sister. Lord Yama listened to Mother Ganga and went to meet his sister, who happily welcomed him and offered him sweets and delicious food. Yamuna also tied a Rakhi on Yama's wrist.
